Main Requirements for Importing Animals to Indonesia

  1. Microchip: Your pet must be identified with a microchip compliant with ISO standard 11784/11785. If the microchip is of a different standard, you must bring your own reader.
  2. Rabies Vaccination: All animals must be vaccinated against rabies at least 30 days before travel, but no more than 12 months before the entry date.
  3. Health Certificate: An international veterinary health certificate from a licensed veterinarian is required 5-10 days before departure. The certificate must be endorsed by the state veterinary service of your country.
  4. Import Permit: The Indonesian government requires an Import Permit for all pets. This document must be obtained through a local agent or a specialized company.
  5. Rabies Antibody Titer Test (RNATT): If your country is considered high-risk for rabies, your pet will require a Rabies Neutralizing Antibody Titer Test (RNATT). The test must be conducted at least 30 days after vaccination but no earlier than 3 months before travel.
  6. Quarantine: In some cases, animals may be subject to quarantine upon arrival for up to 14 days. Check this information in advance.

Restrictions and Prohibitions

  • There is a ban on importing and exporting dogs in Bali. This rule is related to the fight against rabies on the island.
  • Some dog and cat breeds may be prohibited from import. It is recommended to clarify this information in advance with local authorities or your agent.

Import Procedure

  1. Document Preparation: Ensure you have all necessary documents, including microchip details, vaccination and health certificates, and the import permit.
  2. Choosing an Airline: Find an airline that accepts pets and offers suitable transportation conditions. Pay attention to the requirements for the travel crate.
  3. Customs Formalities: Upon arrival in Indonesia, the animal must be inspected by a veterinary officer. Prepare copies of all documents for presentation.

Travel Preparation Tips

  • Prepare a comfortable and safe travel crate that meets IATA standards.
  • Before the trip, ensure your pet is comfortable in the crate and does not experience stress.
  • Consult your veterinarian on whether to use sedatives during the flight.
