Latest UX/UI Trends: What’s Hot in Design?

technoticiaBy technoticia

There’s no shame in admitting that you spend a lot of time on your phone. According to Pew Research, three out of ten Americans claim to be online “almost constantly.”

With such heavy use of the Internet comes a need for exceptional UI – the interface people use to interact with websites and apps. Things are changing so fast, though, that it can be difficult to keep track of the latest developments. What UI trends are currently hot in the online world?

Let’s take a look at a handful of important UI trends to take note of.

UI Trends Toward Dark Mode

The dark mode used to be a niche feature that you were lucky to find on the average website or app. Now, the lack of dark mode is a dealbreaker when looking at a screen all day. Websites and apps without dark mode feel antiquated and unfriendly to the user.

2024 may be the year when dark mode finally becomes the default across every website and app. With luck, people will no longer require extensions like Dark Reader to protect their eyes from offending websites.

Responsiveness

Fiber connections with gigabit speeds and low latency result in snappy websites that load in a blink. Web apps have become the norm. Now, any lag is painfully noticeable.

Modern UI is trending toward responsive UI that never feels like it’s slowing down. Hire UX services in New York to make sure your UI maintains low latency.

Microinteraction

A microinteraction, put simply, is any tiny interaction whereby a user does something and gets feedback. For example, pressing an animated button that produces a response sound.

Microinteractions go hand-in-hand with responsiveness. Web-loaded apps need to feel like normal on-disc apps. Microinteractions help users develop a satisfying, engaging workflow for their tasks.

3D Design

With the increase in Internet speeds comes an increase in computing power. Some smartphones are now capable of running AAA games, so it only makes sense that they can produce simple 3-D graphics.

Websites and apps will now start to feel like they have depth and additional layers of dimension. AR and VR are growing in popularity, too, so we may see phones implementing that more often.

AI Integration

AI was the buzzword for 2023 and likely will continue to be so for the coming years. Every company is trying to add some form of AI to their products, from automated chatbots to content-generating extensions. Naturally, UI and UX are where AI will manifest the most.

For example, take Microsoft’s implementation of the copilot into Windows 11 and the upcoming Windows 12. Copilot serves as a do-anything tool for applications like Word. Elsewhere in the OS, it will likely work like an advanced Google Assistant that can handle complex, automated tasks.

What are the hottest UX and UI trends out there right now? We are seeing wider-spread adoption of dark mode, more responsive apps, and a focus on microinteractions. Aside from this, 3D elements and AI will take up more and more space in the UI/UX scene.
